“There’s only one Sato left” Maverick said. “The forgotten one.”
“Maverick.” Bianca warned.

“Please. Don’t act like you didn’t notice.” Maverick snickered. Bianca did notice a certain misplacement of Emilene’s role in the family opposed to Ken’s but it wasn’t her place to judge. That’s not why she was here. She was here to solve a case and Emilene’s disconnection from the Sato family could prove to be a vantage point for the investigators.

Since Emilene Sato didn’t have much of a public image, Bianca had completed the least amount of research on her compared to her family members. Even Natalia had more articles about her than Emilene. Bianca wondered if the youngest Sato just lived a relatively normal life or was she hiding from someone.
“Hello, good afternoon Miss Sato,” Maverick introduced.

“Emi.” She corrected as she starred into the camcorder. “Why are you recording this?”
“Just for reference. Everything said between us is confidential.”
“Plus, I think your dad would kill us if any of this got out.” Maverick chuckled but Emilene didn’t seem entertained by his comment.
“What is your relationship like with your parents?” Bianca asked.

“I’m working on my relationship with my parents. My mom and I are cool. She’s super understanding and never really bothers me. On the other hand, my dad and I bump heads a lot. He’s super uptight all the time. I don’t remember him being like this before.”
“Before what?”
“Before I went away to Britechester. I just moved back home this past October.”
“October? So you spent a few months living on your own after graduation?”
“More like a few years. And I didn’t graduate. I dropped out.”
“Why?”
“University wasn’t what I expected it to be. I studied law. At the time, I thought that’s what I wanted to do but every day I started to hate it more and more. And then eventually I became distracted.”
“What distracted you?”

“Finally, I had the chance to meet people outside of my Mt. Komorebian box.

And of course, I had the chance to experience a lot of new things.

I was finally able to explore the world on my own.

So I did.”
“Right. So. How has Shio affected you?”
“It hasn’t. According to my brother, this Shio person started to appear when I was still away. Ever since I’ve been back I haven’t receive anything.”

“What about any suspicious texts or plans failing? Has anything out of the ordinary happened to you in the recent years?” Maverick pressured.
“Nothing ‘out of the ordinary’ or abnormal or even weird. Whatever has been happening with this Shio person, has had no effect on me.”
There was an awkward silence between the trio.
“Is there something wrong?” Emilene asked.

“We weren’t expecting this.” Bianca admitted. “The whole point of this interview is to get an understanding of Shio’s attacks against your family but there’s nothing here. You’ve been living your own life away from all the chaos.”

“Yeah…so is there anything else I can help with?” Emilene asked while silently hoping this would cut the interview short.
At this moment, Bianca was ready to throw in the towel and review their notes. Maybe there was something hidden between in the cervices of their conversations that could point her in the right direction. But before she could dismiss her last interviewee, Maverick spoke up.
“Based on our interviews with your family members, Shio has had a way of getting close to your family without exposing themselves. We have also uncovered your family’s close relationship with the Kudos. What can you tell us about Daniel Kudo?”

“Daniel is the oldest son of Hana, our previous housekeeper. He was always super quiet and since he was older than us he wouldn’t play with us. He would isolate himself by reading his books or playing on his computer. But from what I can remember, he was always super nice to me.”

“So were you shocked by what he did?” Maverick questioned. Bianca was shocked by how he was handling such a sensitive topic but she held it together with a smile.
“Of course, I would have never thought that Daniel would try to hack Sato Technologies to install viruses that could have shut down the whole company. There was no reason for him to attack our family in that way. Especially since he lived under our roof and worked for my dad. It really came out of left field. ‘Til this day, he still tries to maintain his innocence.”

Bianca could see her boyfriend barely holding back a smile. Did he think he was some kind of mastermind investigator by getting Evelyn to tell him what Daniel did instead of researching it himself? “Do you think Daniel could be behind some of these attacks?” Maverick further questioned.
“Maybe… I’m not sure. I just don’t see how he could do that from prison.” Emilene answered.
“Fair enough. That’s all the questions I have for you, Emi. Thank you for your cooperation.”
Emilene peacefully left leaving the two investigators alone in the hotel room. Maverick, who was pretty pumped after finally completing all of the interviews, stood to stretch out his legs.

“That went pretty well if you ask me. What ya think?” Maverick asked but Bianca could barely hold herself together. She quickly collected the camcorders and vanilla envelopes into her bag and rushed out of The Oracle Hotel, leaving behind her partner and a trail of chagrin.

“One more,” Mauricio demanded. He could see the bartender’s hesitation in his eyes. “What?”

“You sure partner? You’ve been here since the morning and haven’t stopped sipping since then. I’ve lost count on your drinks. I would have been cut you off if I didn’t know who you were.” The bartender cautioned. Mauricio contained his smirk. He must have ran into this man during his time as Sheriff. He couldn’t help but wonder which side of the law the bartender was on.

“I’ve been pacing myself and I’m not driving. I’m good for another one.” Mauricio said which prompted the bartender to pour him another round. Mauricio downed the drink with in a few minutes.

“Damn man. Whatever you’re going through isn’t that bad. I promise.” the bartender commented as he finalized his decision to close out Mauricio’s tab.

A/N: Finally we’re at the end of Chapter 3! This part took a lot of editing and a lot of backstory prep. I think for Em’s part I had to shoot like 10 different scenes. (Also sorry for the jumpscare of Daniel’s mugshot gif lmfao) I’m so ready to move on from this dark and moody hotel room and away from this back and forth dialogue. How did you like Evelyn’s part? Even though she hasn’t been around for the Shio attacks her story is just as important as the other family members so make sure you pay attention 😉
Anyway, next chapter we’re going to be formally introduced a few more character including the one and only Elizabeth Kudo! See ya there.
